Art Byman Photographed by Arthur Craig
Arthur Craig took these great images of Art Byman that appeared in the January, 1962 issue of the physique magazine, The Demi-Gods.
According to the blurb alongside one of the images, Arthur Craig was the wardrobe master for the New York City Ballet and, when not at work, used his Leica to snap images of handsome models.
This issue of The Demi-Gods credits Craig with discovering Art Byman.
Robert Duranton Photographed by Arax Studio
Robert Duranton was born in Paris in 1926 and had early success as a bodybuilder, when he won the title Mr. France in 1948, 1949, 1950 and 1951. He became a popular wrestler in Canada before moving to Hollywood, where he never quite made it into films. Eventually, he returned to France, where he appeared in a few popular French movies.
Gregor Arax of Arax Studio took all of these photographs. He was a Greek national, who photographed male nudes in Paris from the 1930's to 1960's. He photographed many of the elite bodybuilders of his time, including Steve Reeves.
My favorite of these images is the one of Robert seated on the podium and holding the sword at his side. His stylized pose and haughty gaze over our heads give him the air of an Olympian among mortals.

Richard Alan and Glenn Bishop
Richard Alan was another popular beefcake model in the 1950's.
Of course, that is Glenn Bishop lying at Richard's feet in one of the photographs.
Despite its diminutive size, I've also included the catalog of twelve photographs in case you come across any of the images and need to identify the model.
I am searching for photographs showcasing Richard's muscular back.
Douglas of Detroit took the image of Richard holding the pole. Some of the features in the other images in this post look so similar - his hair, in particular - that the photographs are likely from the same series, but I am not going to identify them as such until I have confirmation.
Jack LaLanne
Here are two more great photographs of Jack LaLanne.
Please jump to this post on the blog to see images of him and Jack Thomas posing nude for Russ Warner.
