Bob Berg was a librarian at San Francisco State University in the mid-1950's. Contemporary photographers of the male physique like Rip Searby, David Martin and Al McDuffie (Cal Models) knew Berg and on occasion sent models to him. Berg also drew models from San Francisco State University and local gyms.
