UPDATED January 13, 2013: I was lucky to discover these excellent photographs of Norman Tousley.
The images of him seated and posing outdoors were taken by Russ Warner.
I think the photograph of him on the cover of
muscle power provides some scale of what a massive bodybuilder he was.
My favorite beefcake model of all time!

Thank you for the photographs of Norman Tousley. What a man! One of my new favorites for sure in so many ways. I liked his wedding ring in some of the pictures as well. Did you know that he was a fireman? As it is listed on a website that I was unable to verify they have him listed as being the Chief of the Alameda, California Fire Department. Here's the link:

Hello, Top Drawer!
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by the blog. I enjoy working on it every day.
I did know he was a fireman. Bob Mizer mentions that fact in an early issue of PHYSIQUE PICTORIAL. And there is a snippet from a 1950's Alameda newspaper that says Tousley was driving one evening with his wife while off duty when he responded to a massive blaze in that town - which is across the San Francisco Bay from The City and still a delightful, sleepy town.
Best regards,
Michael
Hi Michael,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for taking your time to put together this blog. I know it takes a lot of time to keep with all of it. I just wanted to make sure you knew that there are many people that really appreciate your hard work.
I find myself having to tear myself away from your blog as I can spend many hours just checking out all the great pictures and information you have compiled here.
Thanks for verifying that Norman Tousley was indeed a fireman. Wow, was Alameda lucky to have him there and if you look at the internet photos posted of the current members of the Fire Department it looks like they continue hiring very masculine guys. I am sure back in the day on Alameda, (that is if you were lucky enough) you could have seen Norman running along the beach working out.
I always liked Alameda, I just wish the level of crime was more under control. It's still a fun place to take your lunch, hang out at the beach and take in the sights of the bay. Now thanks to you, I have other thoughts running through my mind as I can only imagine who else enjoyed Alameda.
Question for you: How many of these "models" do you think were gay or bi? I would assume the pressure to get married forced the men to have a wife and or family.
All the best to you.
