Jim Collette

Here are three images of Jim Collette, who died not too long after these were taken of a drug and alcohol overdose while on the Colorado River.

You can see photographs by the Athletic Model Guild of Jim wrestling Tommy Evans when you jump to this post in the blog.

Every issue of AMG's Physique Pictorial is a treasure trove of information on many of the beefcake models, as Bob Mizer wrote blurbs on nearly every model when they appeared in the magazine. On Jim's sudden death, he wrote:

"We regret to report the passing in June 1968 of Jim Collette. A beautiful boy with just about everything to live for, he seemed from a very early age bent on self destruction.

"On California's last primary election day (the same day Senator Robert Kennedy was assassinated) Jim took a trip with a group of hippie friends to the Colorado River. The group returned without him. Three days afterwards he was found floating in the river, but an autopsy revealed that death had come from drugs and alcohol. If you know other young people who think this is a cute way to get their 'kicks,' you might mention this story to them."

I know AMG took the photograph of Jim wearing the posing pouch, but I do not know who took the other two.

  2. Hello, Rich! I know what you mean....I've missed sorting through the images. And, to stay in the "writing zone," I had been listening to the same podcast while writing the book. I'm now THRILLED to be listening to all kinds of music. Stay tuned for a lot of new photographs. Best, Michael
