Lou Degni Photographed by Lon
Lon took these outstanding photographs of Lou Degni, who was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1933 and by the time he was twenty years old was already placing at the top of bodybuilding competitions.
In 1954, he won the title, Mr. Venice Beach, and two years later placed fifteenth in the Mr. America competition.
If he looks familiar, then you likely remember him as Mark Forest, the herculean male lead of a string of successful sword-and-sandal films, a genre of B movies produced in the 1960's in Italy nearly as popular worldwide as the spaghetti westerns to come out of that country a few years later.
In the mid-1960's, Lou left the film industry, studied singing, then taught it for many years in Southern California.
