It is very stylized: save for the sake of beauty, there is no reason why his hands need to be positioned the way they are....When you look at ad campaigns from the late 1950's and early 1960's, you will see models in similar positions: does such positioning suggest movement? vitality? tenderness? I wonder.
I especially like the shot where John has his hand on his hip.
