I do not know who this muscular man was, but suspect this image was taken around the turn of the twentieth century, when strongmen at circuses and carnival freak shows across Europe, North America and Australia thrilled audiences with their amazing feats of strength.
I had reposted this on my blog , and one of my readers replied and said it was Tony Sansone.

ReplyDeleteOn this blog are several photographs of Anthony Sansone, who has darker hair and a more lean body.
This model strikes me as having posed for this image around 1900 or even earlier, which is 30 or so years before Anthony posed.
