This unknown model has a fantastic, leanly muscular physique.

  1. A lovely photo, and a spectacular blog! It's the first on my list. Thanks for your time and energy.

I have a question and wonder if you can help... do you know who and in what issue and when was the first published photo of the famous AMG shower? You know, the one with the grey and white tiles.

    Thanks!

  2. Hello, stealwaters aka Rob!

Thank you for writing that you enjoy the blog.

I did a quick search of my Physique Pictorial magazines and found the first series of shots of said shower, whose tiles are actually several different colors (and somewhere I have color photos to prove it).

The series of shots appears on page 31 of the Volume 10, Number 1 issue, which was published in June, 1960.

The 12 images are on the same page and quite small. They are of 12 different models who were posing for AMG at that time, Everett Lee Jackson aka Cherokee the only one featured on my blog.

Beneath these 12 images Bob Mizer wrote:

"'The Clean Ones' or 'Gentlemen at Their Bath.' Ever since one of our readers sent us in a shot of a young man taking a shower on board a navy vessel, we have been shooting shower photos ourselves hoping we could get some of the natural, candid quality the other photographer achieved. On this page are a few of our efforts. We've done a lot of others and intend to go on trying. Please offer your suggestions. AMG offers catalogs on each of the men illustrated here. Be sure to specify that you want the catalog showing shower scenes, and give the model's photo number as a guide. You can get 4x5 prints of any of these studies at 35¢ each. (Allow 30 days delivery)."

    If only!

    Best regards,

    Michael

PS - In 2002 or so, I briefly worked for the Athletic Model Guild after it was sold to Dennis Bell and relocated to El Cerrito, Ca. I saw the shower in person, as well as many of the props used in shoots, Bob Mizer's personal desk and boxes upon boxes of photos, films and catalogs of AMG's models....It was a treat being there and seeing in person so much great vintage beefcake.

  3. Thanks Michael. I have seen color photos of the shower, and I must say, I definitely prefer the black and white versions. I'm not exactly sure why, but I do. To have seen the shower in person, though - what a treat! Thanks for sharing. Rob.
