As you likely know, George Platt Lynes committed suicide, unhappy to be a gay man in this world. I wish he had not, and I further wish he had lived to see some of the world change so quickly as it has done so now in much of the West.
Is it rude to think that "Dick Beard" is a hilarious name for a nude model? Do his friends affectionately call him "Merkin"?

ReplyDeleteYes, I did notice the name as I posted it. But because that is how George Platt Lynes knew him, I did not change it to Richard.
Beard was a rather extraordinary ballet dancer in the 1940's. His obituary appears in the LA Times:
