I woke up this morning to see the views of this blog have surpassed 10,000,000.
That's certainly a lot of vintage beefcake viewing!
To celebrate this milestone, I selected this photograph of one of my favorite models, Keith Stephan, taken in the 1950's by Bruce of Los Angeles.
I'm pleased with the interest in this blog.
I maintain it to record for posterity the names of vintage beefcake photographers and models, as well as to acknowledge their endeavors, from the end of the 1800's to the middle of the last century, to invent in a more homophobic, less permissive world the concept of beefcake: the widespread popularity of viewing male beauty purely for the pleasure of it.
Your blog is absolute fantastic. Thanks so much for your amazing work.
ReplyDeleteYour presentation and knowledge of this art and the era it was produced is outstanding. I was a young teenager back then and it's wonderful to discover someone who is preserving these memories 50 years later. I only wish today's photographers of Beefcake would study these images, learn and copy some of the techniques.
ReplyDeleteThank you, He Wi and Unknown!
ReplyDeleteClearly, I enjoy working on this blog. :)
I'm occasionally asked who I think are the heirs of vintage beefcake. I always say good porn - You know it when you see it! - and standout celebrity and fashion photographers. Presently, I like very much Anthony Amadeo, whose work you can see at https://www.instagram.com/anthonyamadeo/
Best,
Michael
